Change of Status Application Procedure

Are you currently in the United States on a visa that is eligible for a change of status (such as B-1/B-2, F-2, H-4, L-2, and more) and dreaming of becoming an F-1 student to study at an SEVP-certified school? Get Started

  • Fill out our F-1 International Student application online and pay the application fee.
  • Our admissions team will reach out to you to schedule an appointment with one of our advisors so we can guide you through the next steps.

Gather Documents & Fees

  • Gather all required documents and get English translations of documents if necessary
  • Write your personal statement explaining why you are seeking a change of status
  • The form I-539 will be completed by our Immigration Advisor at the time of your final appointment
  • $420 Online Filing fee for single applicants. This is by card only. If there are dependents, the applicant must paper file. The paper filing fee is $470 and must be paid with form G-1450 or G-1650.

Review & Complete

  • Make an appointment with the Immigration Advisor and send all necessary documentation in PDF format via email.
  • After the Advisor creates your I-20 (F-1 student documentation), you will pay the required $350 I-901 SEVIS fee online
  • For single filers, the case is submitted online, allowing applicants to monitor all communications from USCIS directly through their account until the case is adjudicated. If the applicant has dependents and the case is filed by paper, the applicant is responsible for mailing the complete package to USCIS.
  • For applicants with dependents, you will typically receive receipt notices from USCIS about two weeks after the petition is submitted. These receipts can then be added to your online account for tracking and updates.
